The Next-generation Muon (g−2) Experiment
نویسنده
چکیده
The muon (g − 2) experiment at the Brookhaven AGS achieved a relative precision on the muon anomalous magnetic moment, a μ , of ±0.54 ppm. The anomaly is sensitive to a wide range of physics beyond the standard model such as supersymmetry, and thus can help constrain the interpretation of any " new physics " found at the Large Hadron Collider. It is desirable to improve the precision of the experiment and of the theoretical (standard-model) value. A new experiment to improve the precision of a μ to ±0.14 ppm is being discussed for Fermilab or J-PARC. The existing precision muon storage ring would be moved to one of these facilities. In parallel, a significant worldwide effort to improve the uncertainty on the standard model value is underway, and over the next several years could produce a significant improvement in the theory uncertainty. c Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike Licence.

Intense Slow Muon Physics
An overview (but not comprehensive) list of intense slow muon physics programs at a future neutrino factory, ranging from particle physics, nuclear physics to applications, is given in Table 1, where programs are categorized into three groups, (1) precision measurements, (2) search for rare processes, and (3) application. Among the particle physics programs with muons [1], very important are (a...
متن کاملStudies for the PRISM FFAG Ring for the Next Generation Muon to Electron Conversion Experiment
High intensity and high quality muon beams are needed for next generation lepton flavour violation experiments. Such beams can be produced by sending a short proton pulse to a pion production target, capturing the pions and performing RF phase rotation on the resulting muon beam in an FFAG ring. Such a solution was proposed for the PRISM project and this paper summarizes its current status. In ...
متن کاملEDELWEISS - 2 Dark Matter Search : recent results with new detectors
EDELWEISS-2 is a direct dark matter (DM) search experiment using cryogenic Germanium bolometers. The most promising DM candidate, a so-called weakly interacting massive particle, WIMP, is expected to scatter off the target nuclei thus depositing a tiny energy in the detectors. A powerful event selection and good background knowledge are of crucial importance in this case. The experiment is situ...
متن کاملAnalysis of the Hadronic Light - by - Light Contributions to the Muon g − 2
We calculate the hadronic light-by-light contributions to the muon g−2. We use both 1/Nc and chiral counting to organize the calculation. Then we calculate the leading and next-to-leading order in the 1/Nc expansion low energy contributions using the Extended Nambu–Jona-Lasinio model as hadronic model. We do that to all orders in the external momenta and quark masses expansion. Although the had...
متن کاملValidation of spallation neutron production and propagation within Geant4
Using simulations to understand backgrounds from muon-induced neutrons is important in designing next-generation low-background underground experiments. Validation of relevant physics within the Geant4 simulation package has been completed by comparing to data from two recent experiments. Verification focused on the production and propagation of neutrons at energies important to underground exp...
